Srinagar, February 24 (KNS): Apni Party has urged the government to ensure the immediate completion of the construction of the Government Medical College (GMC) at its already approved site in Gund Chogal, Handwara. The party has warned against any attempt to change the location of the college to appease certain political leaders.
According to a press release issued here, the Apni Party raised this demand today after a delegation from the Langate Constituency in Handwara met with party president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari in Srinagar. The delegation apprised him of ongoing attempts to relocate the GMC solely to appease certain politicians.
The delegation led by the senior party leader Mohammad Munawar Khwaja, was comprised members of the Awqaf in Langate, prominent civil society members, and several party leaders.
“The delegation informed Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari that attempts were being made to shift the approved site for the GMC Handwara from Gund Chogal. They said that although the required buildings for the college have already been constructed and are near completion, work has been stopped in an attempt to relocate the site just to appease certain political leaders,” the press release reads.
“Believing that the establishment of GMC in the area would bring economic benefits and employment opportunities to the local population, farmers willingly gave their fertile land for the project.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHowever, they now feel deceived as efforts are being made to relocate the site. According to the statement, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari assured the delegation that the “Apni Party firmly supports this public demand and will take a strong stand to prevent any relocation of the approved GMC site at Gund Chogal in Handwara.”
He emphasised that the “Apni Party will not allow any attempt to shift the site and urged the authorities to take immediate measures to ensure the project's immediate completion.”
