Srinagar, Feb 24 (KNS)Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reaffirmed his government’s commitment to fulfilling promises made in the party’s manifesto, emphasizing that these pledges were meant for a full five-year term. Speaking to the media, he urged patience, noting that the first budget is yet to be presented.

"Our manifesto was not for five days or five weeks; it was for five years. We know what we have promised, and we will deliver," Abdullah stated according to KNS correspondent.

He reiterated his strong demand for the restoration of Jammu & Kashmir’s statehood, stressing that many critical issues cannot be effectively addressed under Union Territory (UT) status. "Why am I fighting for statehood? Because I know the limitations of a UT. There are issues that require full statehood for resolution, and we will continue our efforts on both fronts," he asserted according to KNS correspondent.

Addressing public health concerns, Abdullah emphasized the importance of tackling obesity, calling it a growing lifestyle disease. He praised the Prime Minister’s initiative to spread awareness about obesity and urged people to adopt healthier habits.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel"If we stay healthy, our children will study better, hospitals will face less pressure, and overall life expectancy will improve," he remarked.

On the upcoming budget, Abdullah made it clear that he would not discuss any details before its official presentation. "The budget is the government's responsibility, and it must be presented in the assembly first. I will not comment on it before March 7," he stated.

Highlighting concerns over the region’s water crisis, Abdullah pointed to a significant shortfall in winter rainfall and snowfall, warning of possible water shortages in the summer. "There has been an 80% deficit in precipitation in some areas, which will impact agriculture and household water supply. We must start preparing now," he cautioned.

He called for proactive water conservation measures, including rainwater harvesting and improved irrigation systems, directing the Agriculture and Jal Shakti Departments to take necessary steps. "We need to adapt to the changing climate and ensure water security for the people of Jammu & Kashmir," he added. (KNS)
