2nd encounter in J&K in last 24 hours; Army man, 2 terrorists killed in ongoing encounter in Rajouri

Srinagar, Sept 13 (KNS): A Commanding Officer, Major of the army and Deputy Superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police have been killed in an ongoing encounter with terrorists Kokernag area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday, officials said. 

An official told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in Kokernag area today.

 

He said that during the initial exchange of fire two army officers including CO and Major and a police officer were critically injured but due to heavy firing by terrorists, the injured could not be evacuated.  

 

He said that the body DySP was later retrieved amid heavy firing by terrorists in dense forests. 

 

Meanwhile, top army and police officials including Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, Army’s 15 Corps commander and Director General of police Dilbag have rushed to the encounter site to supervise the operation. 

 

This is second encounter in last 24 hours in Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier, one army soldier was killed and three security forces personnel were injured, while two terrorists were also killed in Narla area of Rajouri.

 

The army officers, who were killed in Kokernag encounter have been identified as Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Aashish Dhonchak and DySp Muzamil Humanyun Bhat.

 

Officials said that heavy exchange of firing is going on when reports last came in. (KNS)
