4 years on, degree college Soibugh still incomplete, locals aghast

Budgam, Nov 03(KNS): The government Degree College in Soibugh area of central Kashmir's Budgam district has been awaiting completion of its building for the last several years, locals complained here on Friday.

Though the work on the college building was started in 2019, the work on the building had been abandoned by the concerned agency and is still incomplete.

Gulam Rasool Malik, a resident of Soibugh, talking to the Kashmir News Service (KNS) said that when the college was sanctioned in 2019, the locals welcomed the government's decision, and the construction agency commenced the work. Unfortunately, the construction was halted midway, and for the past two years, there has been no progress on the building, leaving residents uncertain about the reasons behind the delay.

Malik stated, "During the Public Darbar with senior officials, we raised the issue with the government, but unfortunately, there hasn’t been a positive response." He highlighted that out of the allocated 14 crores, only two crores have been utilized for the construction so far.

The absence of progress has had a significant impact on college students in the area, compelling them to attend distant colleges, adding inconvenience to their academic pursuits. Residents urge swift completion of the college construction to address these hardships faced by local students.

The locals have appealed to the LG led administration to intervene and direct the construction agency to expedite the completion of the college project.(KNS).
