GDC Bla, Organises Webinar on 'Structure Based Drug Design, Methods, Protocol

Baramulla December 24:(KNS) Department of Biotechnology, Govt Degree College, Baramulla today organized a webinar on “Structure-based drug design and discovery: Methods and Protocol”. Around 100 participants attended it through Zoom platform which included faculty members, PhD scholars, under graduate and post graduate students from different institutes like CUK, Kashmir University, BGSBU,SKUAST, Jamia Millia, AIIMS, New Delhi as well as from different degree colleges of the valley. The opening remarks and welcome to the participants was extended by Professor AM Chalkoo, acting Principal of the college. In his remarks he highlighted the importance of the topic. He appreciated the Department of Biotechnology and efforts of Dr Shah Ubaid ullah for holding webinar on such an important topic. Dr. Shah Ubaid ullah introduced the speaker, Dr Imtiyaz Hassan, who is Assistant Professor and Head Structural Biology Lab at Jamia Millia Islamia. Dr. Hassan in his lecture lucidly explained the process of insilico drug design and discovery and the different softwares and tools which are used in the process.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHe also introduced to the participants InstaDock tool developed in his lab which is free and how it can be used in drug discovery. He also elaborated the usefulness of inslico design to deal with the covid pandemic. He also discussed his important finding related to covid 19 and the progress of those studies. It is pertinent to mention that Dr. Hassan is a pioneer in the field and recently, he has been selected among top 2% scientist around the world. He is an elected felloe of Royal Society of Chemistry (U.K.) and Fellow of Royal Society of Biology (U.K.) that indeed is a proof of being globally recognized excellence in the area of drug discovery.
The lecture was followed by interaction session and ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Shah Ubaid ullah, Assistant Professor Biotechnology, GDC Baramulla.(KNS)
