Srinagar, February 27 (KNS): A large number of people from different walks of life, including prominent political leaders, attended the funeral prayers of Dr. Ghulam Sibtain Masoodi, father-in-law of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, at Masjid Wazir Mohammad Khan in Bagat Barzulla. Dr. Masoodi, who passed away late last night after a prolonged illness, was later laid to rest at the ancestral graveyard of the Masood family in Khrew, Pulwama.
Several senior leaders, including National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Justice (Retd.) Hasnain Masoodi, and Tanvir Sadiq, participated in the funeral prayers, expressing their sympathies with the bereaved family.
Omar Abdullah Condoles Demise
Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, expressed his condolences over the passing of Dr. Ghulam Sibtain Masoodi. In a post on X, Omar wrote,
"Inna Lillahi wa innailayhi raji'un. Sorry to hear about the demise of Dr. Sibtain Masoodi Sb, father-in-law of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. May Allah grant the highest place in Jannat to Dr. Masoodi. My condolences to the Mirwaiz and his loved ones."
According to a statement from Mirwaiz Manzil, Dr. Masoodi's Nimaz-e-Janaza was initially scheduled to be held at Jama Masjid Srinagar after Zuhr prayers, but was later conducted at Masjid Wazir Mohammad Khan in Bagat Barzulla.
The bereaved family will be receiving condolences (Taziyat) at House No. 207, Sector B, Westend Colony, Near Tengpora Bridge, Hyderpora, Srinagar.
Mehbooba Mufti, Sajad Lone, and Other Leaders Extend Condolences
Apni Party President Altaf Bukhari also shared his condolences, stating,
"My heartfelt condolences to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Sahib on the passing of his father-in-law, Dr. Ghulam Sibtain Masoodi, who departed for his heavenly abode late last night. Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Rajioon. May the Almighty Allah grant him the highest place in Jannah and give patience to the bereaved family to bear the pain of this profound loss."
Former Chief Minister and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti also condoled the demise, stating in a post on X,
"Deeply saddened to hear about the passing away of Mirwaiz Sahab’s father-in-law, Dr.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelGhulam Sibtain Masoodi Sahab. Condolences to the bereaved family at this difficult hour."
Peoples Conference Chairman Sajad Lone expressed his sympathies, saying,

NC, Apni Party, and Civil Society Leaders Express Grief
Former Minister and National Conference leader Ali Mohammad Sagar paid his respects to the deceased, posting on X,
"Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. I extend my heartfelt condolences and express my deepest sympathies to @MirwaizKashmir Moulvi Muhammad Farooq Sahab over the tragic passing of his father-in-law and brother of my valued colleague in JKNC Justice @masoodi_hasnain. Prayers for magfirah of late Sibtain Masoodi Sahib and thoughts with both the bereaved families. Allah grant Jannat-ul-Firdous to the departed. Ameen."
Civil Society Mourns Loss
Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum and President of the Pensioners United Front, Qayoom Wani, also expressed grief over the passing of Dr. Masoodi. He described him as a pious human being who had made significant contributions to society.
"His contributions will always be remembered. I pray for Jannat-ul-Firdous for the departed soul and strength for the bereaved family members, especially Mirwaiz Jammu and Kashmir, Dr. Molvi Umar Farooq, and MLA Pampore, Hasnain Masoodi Sahib, during this difficult time," Wani said.
Political, Religious, and Youth Organizations Offer Condolences
Youth PDP also mourned the loss, stating in a social media post,
"We extend our heartfelt condolences on the passing of Dr. Ghulam Sibtain Masoodi Sb, father-in-law of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Sb and brother of Justice (R) Hasnain Masoodi Sb. May Allah grant him Jannat-ul-Firdous & give strength to the bereaved family in this difficult time."
