Srinagar, Apr 19 (KNS): Hurriyat (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who continues to be under house arrest from past more than one month, expressed deep grief and condemnation at the ‘brutal killing’ of Muzaffar Ahmad Mir by government forces.
Mir, a resident of Kulgam, was critically injured after government forces fired upon protesters in Barsoo Ganderbal on April 09. He succumbed to his injuries in the hospital this morning.
In a statement issued to KNS, Mirwaiz also expressed deep resentment against the use of force in dealing with student protests at Bomai, Pattan, Ganderbal and other places.
He said “resorting to use of brute force for every expression of resistance or protest by any section of the society even if they be school going students has become the standard response of the state that wants to terrorize people into submission.”
Mirwaiz said locking up schools colleges and universities won't prevent the students who witness severe repression and brutality of the state each day, from demonstrating against it and hitting the streets. “Their overwhelming emotional outpouring is a moving expression of their anger and anguish against political uncertainty and Indian occupation which they are fed up with and having a deep yearning for justice and resolution of the Kashmir dispute,” he said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Mirwaiz said “it is extremely unfortunate that GOI refuses to acknowledge the obvious writing on the wall in Kashmir, where now even school children are braving bullets and pallets to make GOI to see the ground reality in Kashmir. How long will the state continue its policy of oppression? How far will they go in blocking information flow and letting the world know our truth or in gagging us?”
The Hurriyat (M) Chairman said “there is no other way to end this uncertainty and human suffering except by addressing the Kashmir dispute and resolving it as per the people’s aspirations.”
He appealed the international community to gauge the seriousness of lingering Kashmir dispute and play its role in solving the dispute, adding, the international human rights originations should play their role in preventing the worsening rights violations in Kashmir.
Meanwhile, the spokesman has condemned the continuous house detention of Mirwaiz, adding, such dictatorial tactics would not force the resistance leadership from their demand of right to self determination. (KNS)
