Srinagar, May 10 (KNS): Sopore, once known as ‘chota’ London’ has been neglected by the respective governments as no major development has been carried out in the town from years, locals said.
The inhabitants said that the town, famous for apple production houses Asia’s largest second fruit market, lacks in every aspect of development.
“No proper system of garbage system is available in the town. The garbage lies scattered on roads, causing stink across the town,” Rameez Ahmad, a resident of the town, told KNS.
“The roads are narrow, vendors and makeshift stalls have encroached the already narrow roads which blocks pedestrian and traffic movement,” he added.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“One of the main examples of underdevelopment is Bandipora-Sopore highway road near Police Station Sopore. The road is narrow and most of the space is used by shopkeepers for their stalls which creates problem for other vehicular movements. There is a high risk of accidents and life,” the residents said.
A resident of Faisalabad colony Khursheed Iqbal told KNS that there is no drainage system in the town. He said that PWD officials visited their area for a proper drainage and sewerage system, “but till now nothing has been done for its construction,” he added. (KNS)
