Srinagar, January 27 (KNS): National Conference Provincial Vice President and Incharge Lal Chowk constituency Ahsan Pardesi today demanded the urgent need for the conversion of the recently vacated G B Pant Hospital building into a sub-district hospital.

This plea comes in the wake of the government's approval to relocate pediatric services from G B Pant Hospital to the newly constructed 500-bed Children's Hospital in Bemina.

Pardesi underscored the dire necessity of establishing a sub-district hospital within the vacant G B Pant building to address the medical needs of the substantial residential population in the area.

"This demand needs to gain the attention of government towards the challenges faced by local residents who currently find themselves compelled to journey to distant parts of the city for essential medical care, particularly in emergency situations," he said.

While acknowledging the benefits of transferring pediatric services, Pardesi highlighted the persisting difficulties faced by people in the vicinity, emphasizing that convenient access to healthcare remains absent.

"In medical emergencies, the locals of this vast area must travel to SMHS and SKIMS for treatment that only adds to their distress," he added.

Pardesi urged the administration to promptly repurpose the vacant G B Pant Hospital building into a local healthcare center, aligning with the overarching goal of ensuring comprehensive medical facilities are easily accessible to the people of Srinagar.

"Transforming the vacant hospital into a sub-district facility would enable us to address the diverse medical needs of the local population including emergency and OPD, sparing them the challenges of traversing the city," he asserted.(KNS)
