Tehran, Mar 1 (KNS): Iran has appointed Alireza Arafi to its interim Leadership Council following the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in reported US-Israel strikes.
According to Iranian state media, Arafi will serve as the jurist member of the temporary council. The body will oversee the duties of the Supreme Leader until the Assembly of Experts selects a successor.
The council also includes President Masoud Pezeshkian and Chief Justice Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei.
State television announced a 40-day mourning period and declared seven public holidays.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelGatherings were reported in parts of Tehran, where some people mourned, while others celebrated after news of Khamenei’s death spread.
President Pezeshkian said the strike amounted to a declaration of war. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated that action would be taken in response.
US President Donald Trump confirmed Khamenei’s death in a statement on social media. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also issued a statement following the development.
