New Delhi, Apr 5 (KNS): Seizures of cash, liquor, drugs, and precious metals in five poll-bound states and Union territories have crossed Rs 650 crore since the model code of conduct came into force on February 26, the Election Commission of India (ECI) said on Sunday.
According to data from the Electronic Seizure Management System (ESMS) updated till April 5 accessed news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) total seizures stood at Rs 651.51 crore. This includes Rs 53.2 crore in cash, liquor worth Rs 79.3 crore, drugs valued at Rs 230 crore, and precious metals and freebies totalling Rs 231 crore.
West Bengal accounted for the highest seizures at Rs 319 crore, followed by Tamil Nadu (Rs 170 crore), Assam (Rs 97 crore), Kerala (Rs 58 crore), and Puducherry (Rs 7 crore), the data showed. Over 29.

An official informed KNS that the ECI announced the schedule for general elections to the legislative assemblies of Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal, along with bye-elections in six states.
More than 5,173 flying squads and 5,200 static surveillance teams have been deployed across the poll-going states and 12 bordering states to check inducements and enforce the model code. Complaints are required to be addressed within 100 minutes.
The Commission has directed enforcement agencies to ensure that ordinary citizens are not inconvenienced or harassed during inspections. District Grievance Committees and the C-Vigil module are available for reporting violations the official further added. (KNS)
