Srinagar, Jun 23 (KNS): A group of local contractors on Tuesday came out in defence of a Superintending Engineer (SE) of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), days after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted raids in a bribery case, dismissing rumours that the officer had gone underground.
The contractors, in a joint statement, described the engineer as a "dedicated public servant" with no involvement in the alleged corruption scandal, asserting that he continues to report to duty and remains fully accessible to all stakeholders.
"The officer has neither absconded nor is he connected to this case in any manner," the contractors said, while expressing full faith in the probe being carried out by the federal agency.

The CBI had recently carried out searches at multiple locations in connection with an alleged bribery racket within the SMC, triggering speculation about the possible involvement of senior officials. However, the contractors maintained that the SE in question was being unfairly targeted.
"Law has its own course of action to ascertain the facts, and those who are guilty will be punished. He is available at all times during his routine duty hours," the group added in their defence.
The contractors further stated that they had "absolute confidence" in the investigative process and urged against drawing premature conclusions. (KNS).
