Government Order No. 84-JK(IND) of 2026, issued by the Industries and Commerce Department, directed SICOP to hand over physical possession of plots to unit holders under the J&K Industrial Land Allotment Policy 2021-30 who have cleared the requisite premium. The order, however, keeps 34 kanals of land reserved for JKPCC equipment till further orders.

 

The decision, taken in pursuance of Cabinet Decision No. 85/10/2026 dated August 4, comes with strict riders, including the finalisation of asset and liability audits, clearance of all outstanding dues, and adherence to project completion timelines, official sources told PTI. The government has made it clear that allotment procedures must be transparent, while also mandating employment generation for local youth. With the process now set to operationalise the industrial estate, the move is expected to give a much-needed fillip to the brick and tile sector, besides creating livelihood opportunities for hundreds of families in the region.

 

Industry Reaction

 

Terming it a "historic decision", Khalid Subhan Wani, President and Core Group representative of the Brick & Tile Unit Holders, thanked the administration for its proactive intervention.

 

In a statement issued here, Wani expressed gratitude to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, the Cabinet, and all concerned officers for resolving the long-pending issue.

 

"This will not only revive the traditional brick and tile sector but also generate substantial employment for the youth of J&K. We are fully committed to contributing to the industrial growth and economic development of the Union Territory," he said. (KNS).
