Srinagar, Jan 8 (KNS): In a major breakthrough Handwara police  on Monday busted a gang involved in cheating people in the guise of providing Govt jobs, arranging fake marriages and providing inverters.

A senior police official told KNS that they have busted "Cheaters Gang of a  group of accused persons involved in the honey trap module, who used to dishonestly, fraudantly  and mischievously cheat gullible people in general area of  North Kashmir of UT kashmir viz Baramulla, Bandipora and Hardware and also in Central Kashmir Districts of Ganderbal and Srinagar, on  the pretext of providing Govt jobs and arranging marriages and providing Inverters."

They have earned/looted large sums in lacs from different sections of society especially from poor people by using different Modus operandi, he added.
     
A police offical confirmed to KNS that the gang was busted by Handwara police and said that modus operandi utilised by these Cheaters was to give Fake promises for providing Govt Jobs, fake marriage proposals by introducing themselves as doctors, engineers and other govt employees who want to marry and one inverter scheme fraud wherein they used to introduce themselves as Engineers of PDD department and asked people to pay advance of 4500 Rupees and they will get inverter from department. 

During the investigation, police also said that it came to to fore that one of the accused Aijaz Ahmad was acting as fake faith healer and used to give printed amulets to innocent people and looted money from them.

Handwara police has registered an FIR NO. 01 /2024 under relevant sections of law in police station Kralgund and started investigation.

During investigation, police has arrested six persons.
 
Investigation in the case is in initial stage and more arrests are expected, a police official added.
