Srinagar, May 02 (KNS): The recent incident along the International Border (IB) in Samba district has raised suspicions of a potential infiltration attempt, according to senior Border Security Force (BSF) officials.

A high-ranking BSF official suggested that an intruder killed along the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district might have been sent to scope out the area and test the troops' readiness for a possible infiltration.

BSF troops foiled an infiltration bid at Samba's Regal post along the IB on Wednesday night, resulting in the intruder's death. The intruder's body was recovered on Thursday.

Talking to reporters, BSF Inspector General (IG) D K Boora said that troops observed movement from across the border around 8:15 pm on Wednesday. They closely monitored the intruder, who initially approached the border and then crossed it. Despite warnings from the troops, the intruder continued advancing aggressively and was fired upon when he refused to halt, he said.

"The intruder's mission may have been reconnaissance to evaluate border security," IG said. "Gap in the embankment and a closed gate near the incident site was noted which indicates the intruder's attempt to breach the border."

Expressing suspicions IG said that the intruder could have been part of an infiltration plan, with others potentially following him if he had succeeded.

Praising the troops for neutralizing the intruder," the IG said that it is their duty to maintain vigilance and demoralize the enemy.

Regarding concerns about terrorists reportedly hiding in Basantgarh hills, the IG said, "I can only comment on this particular incident. Basantgarh is not within our operational area, it is quite distant. Police are investigating and we will learn of the outcome in due course."

When asked about potential infiltration attempts along the IB, the IG denied any such incidents, stating they had no information about such activities.(KNS)
