Kargil Martyr families honored at GDC Samba

Samba July 26 (KNS): The NSS Unit of PPND Government Degree College, Samba, organised a patriotic event to commemorate Kargil Diwas under the banner of "Meri Mati Mera Desh.

"The families of following martyrs of Kargil War, namely Havildar Kulbir Singh, Havildar Girdhari Singh, Havildar Manohar Lal and Sepoy Lakhvinder Singh were invited and presented with mementos as a token of gratitude for the sacrifices made by their loved ones for the nation. A plantation drive of saplings indigenous varieties of plants was held on the campus grounds in honour of the Kargil martyrs, symbolising our eternal gratitude and remembrance for their supreme sacrifice. In total thirty saplings were enthusiastically plated by the staff and the students of the college.

This drive was sponsored by both the Department of Agriculture, Samba and LIC, Samba. The function was organised under the able guidance of the Prof. (Dr.) Twinkle Suri, Principal of the college. The event commenced with the solemn singing of the national anthem, signifying the unity and pride in our nation. A formal welcome address was delivered by Dr. Geeta Lakhotra, NSS P.O. All present took the "Panch Pran Pledge," affirming their commitment to serve the nation and uphold the values of unity, integrity, and patriotism.

On the occasion, the students from PPND GDC, Samba, and GDC, Vijaypur participated in an enthralling group song event centred around the theme of patriotism. A spell-binding solo patriotic song was also sung by the NSS Volunteer of the College depicting the essence of Kargil Diwas. The student participants were presented with trophies at the culmination of the ceremony.(KNS)
