Srinagar, Aug 28 (KNS) The University of Kashmir on Friday organised a special social service camp at Sir Syed Gate on the eve of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (S.A.W.), with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan emphasising that education must transcend classroom boundaries and inspire students to serve society with compassion.
The camp, arranged by the Department of Students' Welfare (DSW), is part of the University's annual tradition of serving devotees visiting the Hazratbal Shrine for Friday prayers following the Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi observances. Prof. Khan, along with senior University officers, personally served namkeen tea, snacks, fresh drinking water and juice to the devotees.
"Education must go beyond the classroom and inspire our students to serve society with compassion and empathy. It is our privilege to welcome and serve the devotees visiting Hazratbal shrine on this sacred occasion," Prof. Khan said.
The Vice-Chancellor also informed that the University had made parking facilities available on campus and extended support for smooth traffic movement on routes passing through the University. Recalling the institution's long association with the initiative, she noted that such activities were organised even during her tenure as Dean Students' Welfare.

Dean Students' Welfare Prof. Seema Singh said the camp provided a platform for students and University officials to come together in service. "Such initiatives help students understand that education is not only about acquiring knowledge. It is also about developing a sense of responsibility towards society," she said.
Cultural Officer Dr. Shahid Ali Khan described the social service camp as an important annual activity of the DSW, stating that student volunteers consider it a privilege to serve devotees on the auspicious occasion. "Such activities give students an opportunity to interact with society and develop a spirit of service and volunteerism," he said.
Several University officers, including Chief Proctor Prof. Imtiyaz Ahmed Khan, participated in the camp. Student volunteers from Mehboob-ul-Aalam Boys' Hostel and the DSW Youth Club also took part.
A special medical camp was also organised by the University Health Centre alongside the social service camp to provide basic medical assistance and first-aid support to devotees needing immediate attention. (KNS)
