Major Upgrade of J&K Police Stations in Counter-Terrorism Drive Underway, says DGP Dilbagh Singh

Baramulla, Oct 18 (KNS): In a significant move to augment counter-terrorism capabilities in Jammu and Kashmir, the Director General of Police (DGP), Dilbagh Singh, announced the comprehensive upgrade of 43 police stations in the UT.

The primary objective of this initiative is to equip these police stations with cutting-edge gadgets, weaponary, and advanced facilities under the umbrella of "Operation Capacity Building."

Under this operation, 21 police stations have already undergone significant strengthening, receiving state-of-the-art resources to effectively combat the persistent threat of terrorism. DGP Singh made this announcement while addressing the passing out cum attestation parade PTC Sheeri Baramulla.

DGP Singh highlighted that an additional 22 police stations are slated for reinforcement, further solidifying the fight against terrorism in their respective regions. The foundation stone was laid for this critical undertaking, signifying a pivotal moment in the efforts to ensure security and peace in the Union Territory.

During his address, DGP Singh paid tribute to the 1601 police personnel who laid down their lives over the past three decades while upholding law and order. He also underscored the recent achievements of the police force, with 14,000 new recruits receiving training. Notably, 1800 of these recruits underwent specialized commando training and have since been deployed throughout the Union Territory, contributing to enhanced security.

Despite the relatively peaceful environment in the region, DGP Singh stressed the necessity of addressing evolving challenges. He reiterated the commitment of the Jammu and Kashmir Police to confront these challenges with determination and ensure the enduring peace and security of the Union Territory.

A significant and notable development was the induction of 27 Kashmir Police Service (KPS) officers into the prestigious Indian Police Service (IPS). This marked a record-breaking achievement that underlines the commitment of the police department to strengthen its capabilities.

DGP Singh also drew attention to initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of police personnel and their families. An allocation of Rs. 62 crore has been dedicated to the welfare of police families and Special Police Officers (SPOs) this year. Additionally, an extra Rs. 2.25 crore has been allocated to further enhance support for SPOs. The police department has also facilitated promotions, with 4000 individuals receiving well-deserved promotions.

The DGP extended congratulations to the newly graduated officers and expressed his best wishes for their future endeavors. He shared plans to establish two women battalions and fortify the border grid in the coming months, further enhancing the security infrastructure in the region. (KNS)
