Nasir Sogami, Qaisar Lone say LG's movement should not become troublesome for commuters

Srinagar Oct 0 (KNS):  The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Thursday expressed dismay over the curbs on traffic movement on account of LG Manoj Sinha's visit to Kupwara, saying the resultant traffic jam has left scores of commuters at the receiving end.

According to a statement issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), reads that echoing the plight of the people of Kupwara, Party's Provincial President and In Charge Constituency Kupwara Nasir Aslam Wani, and District President Kupwara Qaisar Jamsheed Lone said that the traffic curbs in the wake of LG's visit to Kupwara had left the commuters, particularly the school going children, patients at the receiving end.

“There is no precedent of such a practice in the past. Holding public mobility hostage due to a high profile movement in such a manner is violative of fundamental rights already spelt by hon’ble courts across the country in their judgements. It’s inhuman to compel school going children, hospital bound ambulances and frail and old commuters to wait for hours. Far from addressing the woes of the forlorn district, the visit of LG only increased the vulnerabilities of our people. Administration should strike a balance between security requirements of VIPs and constitutional rights of citizens. Authorities should ensure that citizens aren't put to inconvenience due to such visits,” they said.

They further added that LG's movement should not become a sore point for commuters. “The administration is under obligation to protect the basic and fundamental rights of our people. It's expected that the administration will take corrective steps to avoid halting traffic due to the VIP movement. Constitutional rights of the common man should be protected at any cost,” they said.(KNS)
