Rajouri, Aug 16 (KNS): Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday undertook a visit to the flood-ravaged areas of Rajouri district, demanding immediate relief for affected families and a government job for the kin of a missing daily-wager who was swept away while on duty.
Mehbooba Mufti, who was accompanied by senior party leaders including former minister Abdul Haq Khan, expressed anguish over the "extensive damage" caused by recent flash floods and cloudbursts, which have left several families in distress after washing away residential houses, agricultural land, and business establishments .
Interacting with the affected populace in the worst-hit areas, including those in Manjakote tehsil, the former chief minister was informed that many victims were yet to receive "meaningful assistance" from the administration . The affected families urged the government to provide immediate relief and rehabilitation to help them rebuild their homes and livelihoods.
"The government must treat the situation with utmost seriousness. Victims should not be left to fend for themselves during this difficult period," Ms Mufti told reporters. She called upon the government to ensure the immediate disbursement of relief and compensation to all those who have suffered losses .

In a special appeal, PDP President demanded a government job for a member of the family of Abdul Ghani, a resident of Alal Mangota. Abdul Ghani, a daily-wage worker with the Jal Shakti department, reportedly went missing and his body has not yet been recovered after being swept away by the flash floods while on night duty . Asserting that the family deserves "special consideration" due to their immense loss, she urged the government to provide immediate support .
The PDP president further demanded adequate assistance and compensation for all the worst-affected families, particularly those who have lost their agricultural land and sources of livelihood. She urged the authorities to undertake a comprehensive assessment of the losses to ensure that relief reaches every affected family without delay .
During the visit, Mehbooba Mufti was also accompanied by former legislators Advocate M.R. Qureshi and Advocate Qamar Hussain Choudhary, District President Anjum Mirza, Party Spokesperson Advocate Shokat Ali Khizri, and other party leaders and workers. The PDP leaders assured the affected families that their concerns would be raised with the concerned authorities at the appropriate level. (KNS)
