Rain, Snow Forecast for J&K Higher Reaches

Srinagar, Dec 16 (KNS): The forecast predicts rain and snow in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir over the next two days as a western disturbance is anticipated to impact the region. Although the cloud cover improved cold wave conditions in north and central Kashmir, temperatures dropped in south Kashmir areas.

Srinagar, the summer capital, experienced a milder night with a low of minus 1.3 degrees Celsius, compared to the previous night's minus 3.5 degrees Celsius. Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded a minimum temperature of minus 5.1 degrees Celsius, while the renowned ski resort of Gulmarg registered a low of minus 2.8 degrees Celsius.

Officials said that a weak western disturbance is expected to affect Jammu and Kashmir from Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning. This influence may result in light rain or snow at select locations, particularly in higher elevations. Areas like Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Gurez Valley, and Mughal Road are expected to experience light snowfall.

The meteorological department anticipates an improvement in minimum temperatures due to the feeble western disturbance until Sunday, after which there is a likelihood of the night temperatures falling by 1-3 degrees.(KNS)
