Srinagar Feb 11 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference State Women's Wing President and MLA Habbakadal Shameema Firdous Tuesday said that the 50 percent turnout of women voters in recently held Legislative assembly elections is a significant achievement that will advance the cause of democracy in Jammu and Kashmir.
She made these remarks while addressing a women’s convention at the party headquarters Nawa-e-Subha Srinagar. The convention presided over by Shameema Firdous was attended by women’s wing district and block office bearers.
Shameema emphasized the high turnout as a reflection of how women in the region view democracy as a means to change their fate, which has been impacted by successive governments since 2014.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
She noted that the Omar Abdullah-led cabinet exemplifies a gender-balanced approach. She said, "We must increase the number of women in politics to create policies that better address women's needs and concerns. It was the NC that advocated for 33% women's reservation and allocated 50% of seats for them in various professional courses, including MBBS. NC also ensured women receive their fair share in administration and promoted women's education through various social welfare and vocational schemes for women from backward and tribal classes."
Shameema further emphasised that NC has taken pioneering steps forward for the full participation of women in politics and increasing their stake in nation-building.(KNS)
