Srinagar, July 27 (KNS): Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad Thursday said the smooth and peaceful conduct of 8th Muharram procession on Srinagar roads is "one of the dividends of peace".
He said today Shai mourners took out a procession from Guru Bazar to Dalgate area and we are happy as it conducted peacefully. He also said that Shia community cooperated very well at the occasion.
"There were adequate measures in place for smooth and peaceful conduct of the procession. Administration had pressed its all men and machinery on the job. We congratulate people for behaving well," DC Srinagar added.
Notably 8th Muharram procession took out peacefully in Srinagar after a long pause of 34 years. Earlier community representatives had appealed to J&K government to allow the procession after which Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha convened a high level meeting in this regard. (KNS)
