Providing a detailed break-up of road projects, MLA Kar in conversation with news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) said the Sopore-Sangrama-Sagipora stretch spans 16.2 km, while 6.5 km of roads cover Nabad, Adipora, Maharajpura and Sher-colony Within the town, 11.5 km of CNT roads are also being taken up.

 

The MLA, however, flagged challenges on the Chhankan-Downtown Old SDH to Model Town patch, citing land constraints. "In this patch, I think it is difficult to maximise it. We have to do road widening and drainage. Until road widening is done, we have to cover it in potholes. It is difficult to cover it this year, but we will repair potholes under the pothole scheme," he said.

 

MLA Kar expressed confidence in meeting the October 15 deadline for other stretches, saying, "I have full hope that we will achieve our target."

 

The legislator outlined a comprehensive financial package for urban infrastructure, including Rs 2 crore for lanes and paths under IDMT, Rs 2 crore under FC grants, Rs 5 crore for revitalisation of Sopore town, Rs 5 crore for deep drainage, and Rs 2 crore for beautification — taking the total approval to nearly Rs 17 crore this fiscal.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

 

"After October 15, you will see full-fledged municipal work. The government is also working on the deep drainage project, and I am hopeful it will be completed in the near future," MLA Kar added.

 

On civic maintenance, the MLA admitted to manpower shortages for upkeep of street lights and parks. "There is no manpower to maintain lights and parks. I have taken up the matter with the directorate of local bodies and the concerned ministry. We are trying to outsource it until a permanent solution is found. We will ensure parks and street lights are maintained," he assured.

 

The Sopore Municipal Council has also received Rs 7.17 crore under the Capex Budget 2025-26, including Rs 5.57 crore as Finance Commission grants, Rs 58.65 lakh for urban development, and Rs 1.01 crore for drainage works. (KNS)
