Vice- Chancellor`s Sports Festival commences at Faculty of Horticulture, SKUAST-K Shalimar

Srinagar October 20 (KNS): Vice–Chancellor`s Sports Festival begins at the faculty of Horticulture Today. The Sports Festival was inaugurated at the Sheikh-ul-Alam Sports ground of Faculty of Horticulture, Shalimar Campus by ice Chancellor Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai who was the chief guest of the occasion.

The week-long sports festival was organised by Department of Students Welfare, Shalimar and Faculty of Horticulture the event was attended by the Directors Extension Prof. D.M.Makhdoomi,Dean Faculty of Horticulture Prof S.A. Wani Controller of Examination Prof. K.N.Qaiser, Nodal Officer ICARProf. Sameera Qayoom Head of Divisions, Scientists of the faculty along with huge number of spectators and participants.

Vice -Chancellors appreciated the efforts of the organisers for providing a platform to students for showcasing their talents in the form of soft skills as well as overall personality development. He stressed the need to inculcate sportsmanship spirit among students.  Vice Chancellor interacted with team members of various games. He appreciated the over- whelmed response of girls Students particularly.

Director Education /Dean Students Welfare Prof M.A.A Siddique, Guest of honour of the event said in his statement that sports activities play pivotal role inculcating discipline, brotherhood and time management among students. He added that modern life makes people feel empty, lonely and stressed and sports activities act as stress buster for young ones.

Dr. Seemi Lohani, Students Welfare Officer and Organising Secretary of Vice- Chancellor`s Sports Festival briefed those various outdoor games like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Tug of War, Athletics and indoor games like Badminton, Chess will be played during the Sports festival. Inaugural cricket match was played between the Ph.D and 3 rd Year UG Team however an exhibition match of Tug of War was played between the SKUAST-K Officer`s team and girls students team of Faculty of Horticulture.(KNS)
