Srinagar, Dec 23 (KNS): PDP leader Iltija Mufti on Monday joined the ongoing protest outside Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's residence in Srinagar, lending her voice to the growing demand for a fair and rational reservation policy in Jammu and Kashmir. The protest, led by Member of Parliament Aga Ruhullah Mehdi, has garnered widespread support from political leaders and students alike.
Addressing the gathering, Iltija Mufti emphasized that the focus of the protest was not political but aimed at addressing the genuine grievances of the youth. She stated, “We are here not to do politics. In J&K, the politics often revolves around Article 370 and the restoration of statehood, but no one is talking about the youth. They have very basic demands – like the reservation must be equitable and not discriminatory.”
Mufti also called on the National Conference (NC) government, which came to power with a substantial mandate, to fulfill its promises of rationalizing the reservation policy in a time-bound manner.

The protest highlighted the dissatisfaction with the recently formed cabinet sub-committee on reservation, with Aga Ruhullah Mehdi reiterating the need for a population-based, non-discriminatory policy in line with the Supreme Court’s rulings. He vowed to fight for the students' rights until justice is served, stating that the satisfaction of students was his ultimate goal.
Leaders such as MLA Pulwama Waheed Para and representatives from the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) have also extended their support, underlining the importance of equitable opportunities for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. (KNS)
