“Dialogue only way forward”: Mehbooba Mufti on Indo-Pak cross-border hostilities

Srinagar May 09 (KNS): Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti today appealed to the leadership of India and Pakistan to immediately stop cross-border hostilities and resolve their issues through political dialogue.

Addressing reporters in Srinagar, Mehbooba expressed grave concern over the rising tensions along the borders, stating that innocent civilians — especially children, women, and the elderly — are paying the heaviest price in the ongoing conflict.

"It’s very scary in the border areas. People from both sides are leaving their homes, and countless innocent lives have been lost,” she said. Citing recent incidents in Poonch, Pulwama, and Pahalgam, she warned that such violence is pushing the region to the brink of catastrophe.

Mehbooba condemned military actions from both countries, arguing they only address symptoms without tackling the core issue. “Military solutions have never brought peace. The need of the hour is immediate de-escalation and sincere political intervention,” she remarked.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

She recalled tragic images of children who lost their lives in the recent violence, questioning the justification for such bloodshed. “For how long will the people of Jammu and Kashmir suffer? For how long will our mothers continue to mourn their children?” she asked.

Criticizing the media on both sides for promoting war hysteria, Mehbooba said, “There’s a limit to war propaganda. Instead of calming people, the media is adding fuel to the fire.”

The PDP chief urged both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistan’s leadership to open a direct line of communication and halt the violence. “You have done what you wanted. Now, please stop this for the sake of humanity,” she appealed.

Mehbooba Mufti concluded by warning that any further escalation between two nuclear-armed nations could have devastating consequences for the entire region and beyond.

“The era of war is over. Political dialogue is the only way forward,” she asserted. (KNS)
