17 Affected in Gastroenteritis Outbreak in Bandipora’s Aragam, Advisory Issued

Bandipora, Aug 23 KNS) : At least 17 people have been affected by a gastroenteritis outbreak in Chapran area of Aragam village in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, officials said on Friday, prompting the health department to issue a precautionary advisory.

District Epidemiologist Dr. Nabeel Ishtiyaq said the outbreak was first reported on August 20, with 17 residents developing symptoms of acute gastroenteritis. “Five patients have been admitted to District Hospital Bandipora for treatment, while others are being managed locally. The condition of all patients is stable,” he said.

Dr. Ishtiyaq added that water samples from the area will be sent to the District Public Health Laboratory (DPHL) for detailed investigation to ascertain the source of infection.

Health officials said the local medical staff remains on high alert with sufficient inventory of medicines and supplies, and the affected area has been placed under strict surveillance.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelAn eight-member team has been deputed to Chapran to provide on-ground support and monitor fresh cases.

“The situation is under control. Our teams are keeping a close watch and have been directed to maintain strict vigilance,” Dr. Ishtiyaq said.

Meanwhile, the health department has urged residents to consume only boiled water, use Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS), and maintain proper hand hygiene. “The importance of safe drinking water and safe hands is being highlighted in the community,” an official said, adding that door-to-door visits will also be carried out to identify and treat new cases promptly.(KNS)
