2nd Phase of 1 Lakh Mega Plantation Drive by Al-Himalaya Green Mission Begins in Kargil

Ladakh  April 12 (KNS): The second phase of the ambitious 1 Lakh Mega Plantation Drive initiated by the Al-Himalaya Green Mission and Research Center, under the banner of Jamiat Ul Ulama Isna Asharia Kargil (JUIAK), commenced today across various regions of Kargil district.

Led by the President of JUIAK, Sheikh Nazir Mehdi Mohammadi, the green initiative aims to address the pressing environmental challenges of Ladakh through sustained community engagement and large-scale afforestation efforts.

In this phase, more than two thousand saplings were planted in Shargole, Pashkum, Wakha, and Shilkchey.

Educational institutions including Munshi Habibullah Mission School, Government Middle School Byathang Shilichey, and Government High School Poyen , Govt Schools in Shargole pashkum areas actively participated, alongside staff and students.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The drive has also witnessed enthusiastic involvement from the District Police Kargil, various government and private schools, and the Public Health Center, reflecting growing public commitment to environmental stewardship.

The plantation campaign, structured into eight phases, will culminate in the Zanskar and Drass regions on 4 May 2025. The first phase of the drive, launched earlier this year, saw the successful planting of over 15,000 saplings across multiple parts of Kargil.

Notably, the initiative has received strong backing from the district administration,  Indian Army and the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), highlighting a collective civil-military effort towards a greener Ladakh.
