Srinagar, Jan 13 (KNS): Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced on Monday that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 33 tunnels are being constructed in Jammu and Kashmir, with 15 already completed.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Z-Morh tunnel in Sonamarg, Gadkari emphasized, “Good roads lead to a progressive nation. The Prime Minister has been keen to develop roads in Jammu and Kashmir to ensure the progress of the nation and achieve the goal of ‘Viksit Bharat’.”
He also revealed, “Several ongoing projects in J&K, including the Srinagar Ring Road and four major corridors, are expected to be completed and inaugurated by the end of this year.”
Highlighting the significance of the Z-Morh tunnel, Gadkari stated, “This tunnel will end the miseries of the people who previously had to stockpile essential goods before the harsh winters.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel”
He added that the Zojila tunnel, which was initially estimated to cost Rs 12,000 crore, is now being constructed at Rs 6,800 crore, saving a massive Rs 5,000 crore. “This tunnel will ensure year-round connectivity between Srinagar and Leh,” he said.
Gadkari thanked the Prime Minister for his mission to enhance infrastructure and congratulated the people of J&K, saying, “The people of Jammu and Kashmir are witnessing remarkable developments, such as the Sonamarg tunnel, which is a step towards a brighter future.”(KNS)
