Kupwara, March 14 (KNS): In a blistering condemnation of the National Conference (NC)-led administration, Advocate Dawood, Senior Leader of Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) and Constituency Incharge Lolab, has accused the government of gross negligence and betrayal of its commitments to the people of Machil. The senior AIP leader criticized the administration for its abject failure to clear snow-bound roads and fulfill its promise of chopper services for far-flung areas, especially in emergencies.
The tragic death of 25-year-old Gowher Ganie Mir, a B. Pharmacy student from Dapal Machil, has brought this administrative apathy into sharp focus. His grieving family was forced to carry his body on foot from Kupwara to Machil after a long journey from Chandigarh, as the government failed to arrange air transport despite the family’s desperate pleas.
“This is not just negligence; it is sheer cruelty. The NC-led administration has time and again failed the people of Machil, leaving them abandoned in times of crisis.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelIf a government cannot even ensure a dignified return for the deceased, what moral authority does it have to rule?” Advocate Dawood thundered.
He lambasted the administration for failing to clear snow-clogged roads despite repeated assurances, adding that the government’s tall promises of providing chopper services for emergencies have been exposed as blatant lies. "Had the government fulfilled its commitment, Gowher's body would have reached home with dignity instead of his family being forced to endure this inhumane ordeal," he said.
Advocate Dawood reiterated the long-standing demand for a tunnel to Machil, stating that only a permanent all-weather road can prevent such tragedies in the future. “Machil remains cut off from the rest of the world for months due to harsh weather. A tunnel is not a luxury—it is a necessity. The government must prioritize this crucial infrastructure to ensure that people of Machil do not continue to suffer.”(KNS)
