Srinagar, Aug 31(KNS): The Congress was prepared to contest all 90 seats in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections independently, but an alliance with the National Conference was formed due to a “national compulsion,” said Pradesh Congress Committee chief Tariq Hameed Karra on Saturday.
The alliance was established for the stability and improvement of Jammu and Kashmir, he added. The National Conference and the Congress have agreed on a seat-share arrangement, with the parties set to contest 51 and 32 seats, respectively.
Karra stated that the Congress would grow stronger in the future. He emphasized that the alliance was made under certain conditions, and if these conditions were not met, the Congress was prepared to run in all 90 seats.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
He was speaking to reporters at an event at the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters, where former Kokernag MLA Abdul Rahim Rather and activist Irfan Hafeez Lone joined the party. Karra reaffirmed that the coalition was formed in line with alliance principles and for the benefit of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
When asked about the situation within the BJP in Jammu, where many leaders have resigned following ticket distribution, Karra commented that the issue appeared to be one of ideological conflict. He suggested that the BJP is struggling with internal ideological differences and lacks clarity on its direction and leadership.(KNS).
