Srinagar, Mar 01 (KNS): Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid said that once again Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was prohibited from offering Friday prayers and deliver sermon at Jama Masjid Srinagar.
In a statement issued to KNS, Anjuman said that yesterday the authorities informed that he would be allowed to come to Jamia for the Friday prayers, but today morning they again put him under house detention.
Anjuman said that he is being unjustly prevented from carrying out his religious duties at the Jama Masjid and this restriction not only impedes on his fundamental rights but also on the rights of the community members who benefit from his teachings.
It said that despite repeated appeals to authorities for his release from all quarters, it is falling on deaf ears "We place our hopes in the judicial system to uphold justice, ensuring the restoration of his religious and civil rights, as the matter is scheduled for hearing in court on March 6th.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel"
It urged the court to recognize the gravity of this matter and allow Mirwaiz to visit the mosque on Fridays, ensuring that the government ceases its interference in religious practices. "The freedom to practice religion freely without hindrance is a fundamental right, and we request the courts for its restoration to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq." (KNS)
