Srinagar, October 14 (KNS): The Annual Khadija Memorial Cricket Cup-2023, an inter-school cricket tournament kick started on Saturday in the premises of Green Valley Educational Institute (GVEI) Srinagar.
The competition got off to an electrifying start with an enthralling match between the host school- Green Valley Educational Institute (GVEI), and Crescent Public School, Srinagar.
Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK) Tassaduq Hussain Mir was the Chief Guest at the occasion while Joint Director School Education, Kashmir Mohammad Rouf Rehman, graced the event as well.
The students presented a vibrant band presentation and the hoisting of the school flag by the Chief Guest which was followed by the formal inauguration of the first match of the tournament by the DSEK, the Chief Guest at the occasion.
Crescent Public School won the toss and chose to field. However, the decision to field first seemed promising as GVEI put up a respectable total of 125 runs in their allotted 20 overs.
The spectators were on the edge of their seats, anticipating an exciting chase.
However, Crescent Public School's batsmen faced a formidable challenge from GVEI's bowlers and fielders. Despite their best efforts, Crescent Public School could only muster 80 runs in their 20 overs, resulting in a heartbreaking loss for the visiting team.
Shariq Wani, representing Green Valley Educational Institute was declared the Man of the Match for his outstanding 45 runs.(KNS)
