Sopore, December 30 (KNS )The Sopore Police has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy against drugs, registering remarkable achievements in its crackdown on drug-related activities over the past year. Addressing a press conference, Superintendent of Police (SP) Sopore Divya D, along with SDPO Sopore Sarfaraz Bashir, shared the department's robust efforts in combating the menace of drug abuse and trafficking in the region.
SP Divya D revealed that the police had registered a total of 56 cases under the NDPS Act in the past year, leading to the arrest of 88 drug peddlers. The seized drugs have an international market value of approximately ?65 lakhs. Among the arrested individuals are several notorious peddlers with hardened criminal records.
As part of financial investigations, the police attached two residential houses and 10 marlas of land linked to drug trafficking activities. Additionally, illegal poppy and bhang cultivations spread across 15 kanals of land were destroyed, and FIRs were registered against the cultivators.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
A major drug destruction drive was also conducted, with the district’s Drug Destruction Committee receiving approval from the competent court. Drugs worth over Rs 1.13 crores, including poppy straw, poppy powder, Codeine Phosphate bottles, and Spasmo Proxyvon capsules, were destroyed during the drive.
SP Sopore emphasized the importance of community engagement in the fight against drugs. Awareness campaigns were conducted across schools, colleges, and public places throughout the year. During the "Thana Diwas" initiative, the police sensitized the public about the dangers of drug abuse and the significance of collective responsibility in eradicating it.
Commending the public’s trust and cooperation, SP Divya D stated, "The main credit for our success goes to the people of Sopore, whose support has been instrumental in our fight against drugs." (KNS)
