Srinagar, July 20 (KNS): In response to the recent surge in terrorist activities in the otherwise peaceful Jammu region, Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi held a high-profile security review meeting in Jammu today.
This afternoon, the Army Chief arrived in Jammu to assess the security situation.
This was General Dwivedi's second visit to Jammu in less than three weeks since assuming command as the 30th Chief of the Indian Army.
The meeting saw the participation of top senior officers from the Indian Army, J&K Police, BSF, and CRPF, reflecting a collaborative approach to regional security. General Dwivedi had already briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh about the situation in Jammu, emphasizing the need for heightened security measures.
During the meeting, General Dwivedi was thoroughly briefed on the current security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, with a specific focus on the Jammu region.
The discussions covered areas secured by security forces and ongoing operations aimed at dismantling terrorist support networks.
"The meeting resolved that there must be serious efforts and focus on enhancing security and stability in the region, particularly in the aftermath of recent terrorist activities," sources privy to the meeting told KNS.
Although there was no official communication late in the evening about the meeting, sources indicated that security agencies have been asked to intensify their operations against terrorists and also target support systems aiding terrorism in the region.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
General Dwivedi emphasized the importance of maintaining vigilance and coordination among security forces. "Given the recent escalation in terrorist activities, it is imperative to enhance our security apparatus to ensure the safety and stability of the region," Army chief said, according to sources.
Previously, on July 3, General Dwivedi visited the Poonch-Rajouri sector to assess the security status along the Line of Control (LoC). Sources said that the Indian Army has deployed Para Special Forces commandos in the Jammu region to apprehend terrorists infiltrating from Pakistan. The recent attacks have resulted in the deaths of 10 Army soldiers, prompting an increased security response.
To bolster security, the Indian Army has already augmented its presence in the Kathua region, with additional Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel stationed in various critical areas, including Doda, Bhaderwah, Kishtwar, Kathua, Rajouri, Poonch, and Naushera. "We are poised to deploy fresh reinforcements to further strengthen our troop presence in the Jammu region," said a senior security official.
Before departing for New Delhi, sources said that General Dwivedi was also expected to visit key spots and forward locations to personally assess the security measures in place.(KNS)
