Srinagar, July 03 (KNS): Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi conducted a thorough review of the security situation along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.
This was his first visit to the Jammu region since becoming the 30th Chief of the Indian Army on June 30.
The visit also comes against the backdrop of the critical importance of security during the ongoing Amarnath Yatra and the intensified anti-terror operations in the hilly districts.
An Army spokesperson said that General Dwivedi, along with senior Army officers, visited the forward locations of the White Knight Corps, and reviewed the security situation along the Line of Control (LoC).
“General Dwivedi accompanied by the Army Commander of Northern Command, visited frontline positions to directly evaluate the troops' readiness. Ground Commanders provided detailed briefings on the current security situation, highlighting the strong measures taken to counter potential threats," officials reported.
They further added that the Army Chief praised the troops for their outstanding professionalism and determination, encouraging them to maintain their resolve amidst evolving security challenges.
Defence sources told KNS that General Dwivedi met with the parents of soldiers from the Poonch region who had made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“He conveyed his deep gratitude for their sacrifices and assured them of the Indian Army's unwavering support. Additionally, the COAS interacted with veterans, reiterating the Army's commitment to their welfare and well-being”.
Further, General Dwivedi engaged with officials from the Jammu and Kashmir Police and prominent civil dignitaries.
He commended the seamless cooperation between the Army and local authorities, highlighting their collective efforts in maintaining peace and harmony in the region.
General Upendra Dwivedi made his first visit to the Jammu region since assuming command.
Known for his decisive and innovative leadership within the army, Dwivedi was commissioned into the 18th Battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles in 1984.
His tenure includes serving as the Army’s Vice Chief starting from February 2024, following a distinguished role as the Northern Army Commander for two years.
The Northern Command, headquartered in Udhampur, plays a pivotal role in defending India’s borders with Pakistan and China in the north, and serves as a central hub for counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir.(KNS)
