Bandipora, Apr 13 (KNS): North Kashmir's Bandipora district has emerged as a major contributor to Jammu and Kashmir’s overall hydropower output, accounting for nearly 9.6% of the Union Territory’s total harnessed capacity of 3540.15 MW.

As per the details gathered by Kashmir News Service (KNS), the 340 MW power project located in Bandipora plays a key role in meeting the UT’s energy demands and continues to be one of the most significant assets in the J&K’s power generation infrastructure.

However, KNS has also learned that the proposed 33/11 KV, 6.3 MVA Receiving Station at Arin Bandipora, sanctioned under the Prime Minister’s Development Programme (PMDP-Rural), could not be constructed due to land acquisition delays and contractual issues.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelAs a result, the project missed the implementation deadline, and the scheme now stands closed.

In the absence of the Arin receiving station, the government has provided an alternative power feeder from the 33/11 KV Receiving Station at Nadihal to mitigate the problem of frequent power cuts in the affected area.

The move is expected to bring partial relief to the residents, although the long-term infrastructure gap remains unaddressed.

Officials are yet to comment on any plans for reviving the Arin project through alternative funding or schemes. (KNS)
