Srinagar, Feb 4 (KNS): Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid’s hunger strike in Tihar Jail entered its fifth day as the Delhi High Court (HC) heard arguments on his interim bail application. Rashid, who was elected to the Lok Sabha while in jail, has been seeking bail to attend parliamentary sessions.
His counsel, Vikhyat Oberoi, stated that while a regular bail plea has also been filed, Monday’s hearing focused on interim bail due to the ongoing fourth parliamentary session. “He was not allowed to attend the last session either. The core issue is determining which court— the special NIA court or the MP/MLA court— will try the matter,” Oberoi said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Due to this jurisdictional uncertainty, the Delhi HC has sought clarification from the Supreme Court (SC). Oberoi further noted that Rashid has been unable to approach any forum for bail, leading the HC to summon the registrar general for an explanation regarding the confusion.
Rashid, a former MLA from Langate, was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2019 in connection with a terror funding case. He remains in judicial custody at Tihar Jail. His supporters have been urging authorities to allow him to participate in parliamentary proceedings. (KNS)
