Baramulla stadium in J-K to get day-night cricket lights: DC Minga Sherpa

Baramulla, Dec 19 (KNS): The district administration of Baramulla has announced plans to upgrade sports infrastructure across the region, including the installation of day-night facilities at the General Bipin Rawat Stadium, officials said on Friday.

Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa said that this year, the administration is focusing on improving the district’s cricketing facilities, with the General Bipin Rawat Stadium hosting the maximum number of matches.

“This year, we have sanctioned lights worth over Rs 35 lakh to enable day and night games. By March next year, our main ground will have four day-night lights, making it a standard facility,” he said.

Sherpa added that other stadiums are also being upgraded. “Khushal Stadium’s turfing work has been completed, and in Baramulla, a new AstroTurf facility has been sanctioned for hockey.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThe aim is to strengthen sporting infrastructure for cricket, football, hockey, and other sports so that youth get better opportunities,” he said.

He further said that the district administration continues to support athletes financially, particularly those participating in national-level tournaments.

“We will ensure that players receive assistance in a timely manner so that their talent is nurtured and they can excel in their respective fields,” Sherpa added.

The administration’s efforts are part of a broader initiative to promote sports in Baramulla and provide modern facilities for training and competitive matches across the district.(KNS).
