Links Budgam verdict to People’s ‘Faith in PDP’s Commitment’; Seeks ‘Lawful, not vengeful’ action Post–Red Fort Blast
Srinagar, Nov 14 (KNS): PDP President Mehbooba Mufti on Friday thanked the people of Budgam for placing their trust in the party and electing Agha Muntazir Mehdi in the bypolls, saying the mandate marks a “new beginning after 70 years” and carries a “huge responsibility to serve without fear or favour.”
Speaking to reporters after the results were declared, Mehbooba said the people had shown “faith in PDP and Muntazir sahib despite the government and nearly 50 MLAs standing on the other side.”
She said the party prays for “strength and courage to serve the people of Budgam honestly,” adding that Muntazir, being well-educated and accessible, “will keep his doors open for everyone.”
Calling it a “moment of joy with a shadow of concern,” Mehbooba referred to the recent Delhi Red fort blast that claimed several lives and said the tensions triggered by the incident have created a climate of “fear and terror” in the Valley.
“We want strict action against those directly involved and justice as per law,” she said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“But parents, siblings and relatives who had nothing to do with this incident should not be punished. Blowing up homes or arresting friends and family is against the law.”
Mehbooba urged authorities to ensure that investigations remain fair. “The Home Minister said the law will take its course. We want that too but according to the Constitution, not through collective punishment,” she added asper KNS.
Asked about the cheers for both PDP and NC’s Agha Ruhullah during celebrations, Mehbooba said the people were responding to “leaders who have stood by them politically and emotionally,” while emphasising that the bypoll outcome was a clear endorsement of PDP’s message and Muntazir’s clean reputation.
Mehbooba said the party aims to “honour this mandate with sincere work” and reassured that PDP will “stand with the people of Budgam in every situation.”(KNS)
