CIK Cracks Down on Fugitives in Major Digital Propaganda Case

SRINAGAR, JAN 13 (KNS): Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) executed court-ordered proclamations against three individuals absconding in a case involving anti-national activities and digital propaganda, signaling an intensified crackdown on the alleged misuse of social media to undermine national security.

In a statement issued to news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS), the agency said the action, carried out in Srinagar and Kupwara districts, follows an order by the Special Judge (NIA Act) in Srinagar. The case stems from FIR No. 07/2020, registered at CIK Police Station under Sections 153-A and 505 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The proclaimed fugitives are Mubeen Ahmad Shah, son of late Ali Mohammad Shah, resident of Buchwara, Srinagar, Aziz-ul-Hassan Ashai alias Tony Ashai, son of Nazir Ahmad Ashai, resident of Dock Wali Colony, Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar and Rifat Wani, daughter of Ghulam Mohammad Wani, resident of Trehgam, Kupwara.

According to CIK, investigations have uncovered a coordinated conspiracy by anti-national elements allegedly directed by secessionist forces operating from within and outside the region. The accused are said to have posed as journalists, freelancers, and news operators to wage a covert digital propaganda campaign.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Officials stated that the group systematically used platforms such as Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and WhatsApp to create and spread fabricated, incendiary, and secessionist content. The alleged aim was to provoke street violence, disrupt public life, damage property, fuel unrest, and sow disaffection against the Indian state.

“Freedom of expression cannot be weaponized against the nation,” a CIK spokesperson said. “Those using journalism or online activism as a cover for unlawful or secessionist activities will face decisive legal action.”

The court’s proclamation notice warns that if the accused do not surrender within the stipulated period, their movable and immovable properties will be attached as per law.

CIK emphasized that individuals using digital platforms to spread hatred, disinformation, or anti-national propaganda remain under watch. “The law will catch up with every offender. There will be no immunity for acts that threaten peace, unity, and national sovereignty,” the agency stated. (KNS)
