Cricket helping build peace across Kashmir, says IG CRPF

Srinagar, Nov 22 (KNS): IG CRPF Pawan Kumar Sharma on Saturday said that the force is organising its third consecutive cricket tournament, held annually in November–December since 2023, aimed at engaging youth across three districts—Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal.

Talking to reporters as per KNS, he said the tournament continues to witness rising enthusiasm, with around 123 teams registering this year. “It was not possible to accommodate all, so 16 teams have been selected,” he added. The event will run from November 23 to 28.

Sharma said the tournament is sponsored by the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association and Kashmir University, with a focus on involving maximum youth.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelAge limits of under-19 and under-23 have been set to encourage younger players.

Highlighting Kashmir’s passion for cricket, he said the sport plays a vital role in promoting peace and harmony. “People participate enthusiastically, and cooperation with us is increasing,” he noted, adding that CRPF has been working in the region for 35 years and continues to contribute positively.

He also said that other agencies organizing similar tournaments further strengthens community engagement through sports.(KNS)
