Director Sericulture Inspects Mulberry Nursery, Reviews Progress in Ramban, Facilitates Inter-State Cooperation

Jammu, January 24 (KNS): Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, IAS, Director, Sericulture J&K today embarked on an extensive tour of the Jammu Division aiming to foster cooperation for the growth of the silk industry and to take stock of the developmental works which include up-gradation/construction of departmental infrastructure and arrangements for ensuing mulberry plantation.

The Director Sericulture during the tour had a detailed interaction with the Silkworm Rearers, Officers and field functionaries of the Department. The Director, Sericulture Dev. Department J&K visited the Sericulture Office in Ramban, where he closely examined and on the occasion also inaugurated the distribution of mulberry plants among silkworm rearers and farmers at the Ramban Mulberry Nursery, reinforcing the departments commitment to empowering local farming communities. During his tour the Director emphasized the importance of maintaining quality in Mulberry saplings apart from ensuring its timely distribution to maximize productivity.

During his inspection of developmental works in District Ramban, the Director held interactions with the District Sericulture Officer and other departmental employees. He issued on-the-spot directions to work on a mission mode to achieve the targets outlined under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) and other ongoing schemes. In an effort to promote inter-state cooperation, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat facilitated the supply of 30,000 high-quality S146 mulberry saplings to the Department of Sericulture in Himachal Pradesh. This initiative is set to strengthen sericulture across India and underscores J&Ks leadership in providing quality resources for the silk industry nationwide.

Marking the spirit of unity and patriotism, the Directorate of Sericulture Development Department, J&K, got the offices in Srinagar, Jammu, and other districts adorned with vibrant tricolor lights. On January 26, 2025, the National Flag will be ceremonially unfurled at the Directorate offices in Srinagar and Jammu, symbolizing the departments dedication to nation-building and community service.
