Srinagar, October 6 (KNS): Stating that Exit Polls Could be dramatic, Jammu and Kashmir Congress President on Sunday said that the Congress party believes the exact polls over the exit polls.
Speaking to reporters here at Jammu, Karra said that exit polls could be dramatic but Congress trusts the actual election results over the exit poll projections.
He further said the Congress Party is prepared for post-election scenarios and is in touch with potential allies.
Karra said that the Congress Party is open to alliances with other political parties to form a majority, as long as they share the common goal of keeping the BJP out of power.
He also said that the pre-election nomination of five MLAs before the government formation is an undemocratic and unconstitutional move.
He said that mandate of voters should be respected as such actions could undermine the democratic process in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said the government must be formed based on the outcome of the elections, not by nominating individuals before the process is completed. “This nomination before the official results is a pre-poll rigging. The constitutional provision allows such nominations, but only after consultation with the elected representatives, not arbitrarily.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
He further said that converting a minority into a majority through pre-election nominations is against the spirit of democracy. Such moves threaten to destabilize the democratic framework of the region, which has just seen a smooth election process, he said.
In response to questions about panchayat and local body elections being held soon after the assembly elections, Karra said that such decisions should be made by the newly formed government. "The people’s government, not the interim administration, should make key decisions about the future of Jammu and Kashmir," he added.
Karra also said that candidates reported missing police posts and unchecked movement of vehicles carrying money and liquor on polling days. Despite complaints, no significant actions were taken, which Karra warned could endanger democracy in the region.
Larra said that administration should ensure fairness in the upcoming vote counting process and to act according to the democratic values that guide the nation. "Democracy thrives when the mandate of the people is respected and protected."(KNS)
