Srinagar, Jan 9 (KNS): Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah has emphasized the need for better crowd management at religious gatherings in the wake of the tragic stampede at Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh, which claimed six lives and left 40 injured.
Speaking to reporters in Jammu, Abdullah said, “People visit religious places to seek blessings, not to lose their lives. The stampede occurred on Wednesday night during ticket distribution for darshan at the Tirumala Sri Venkateswara Temple. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has convened a review meeting and is expected to meet the victims’ families.
Meanwhile, officials assured that preparations are in place for the upcoming Vaikunth Ekadasi festival. Tirupati Collector S Venkateswar attributed the mishap to a miscommunication regarding gate openings but affirmed that security and logistical measures have been strengthened. (KNS)
