JKCA has long-term plans for developing cricket infrastructure in Kashmir: Mithun Manhas

Srinagar, Oct 11 (KNS): The Ranji Trophy has returned to Jammu and Kashmir after an eight-year hiatus, with Jammu & Kashmir facing Maharashtra in a first-class match that began on Friday.

Speaking about the importance of the match, Member of Operations at Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), Mithun Manhas told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that it is a "welcome step" in bringing cricket back to Kashmir.

"We aimed to return first-class cricket to the region, and this match against Maharashtra is a great start. It’s been eight years since we’ve had a Ranji Trophy match here, and two more first-class matches will follow — one in Kashmir and another in Jammu," he said.

Manhas said that JKCA’s has a long-term plans for developing cricket infrastructure in the region, including upgrading facilities to meet international standards. "Our dressing rooms have already been renovated, but we plan to build gymnasiums, physiotherapy centers, and extend practice areas. We are also relaying the wickets, which haven’t been replaced in 3-4 years.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel"

Speaking on the role of local talent, Manhas said that their is need for better facilities and more opportunities for young players. "Cricket is a different ball game, and before we expect results from the kids, we need to give them the right infrastructure and matches. It’s only through exposure to high-pressure situations that we’ll see improvement," he said.

On Success of Talent Hunt Program at district headquarters, Manhas said that they will continue this program and have also initiated a new league system that will run year-round for both men and women, at junior and senior levels.

When asked about the public's access to the matches, Manhas assured that entry is open to all. "Cricket is happening in the valley after a long time. We welcome everyone to come and support the JK team. It’s their team, and we hope they will cheer for us," he said, encouraging cricket lovers from both urban and rural areas to join in the celebration of the sport.(KNS)
