Srinagar, October 17 (KNS), 2024: The inaugural edition of Kashmir Marathon, organized by the tourism department, commenced today, attracting widespread attention with a large number of participants and exhibitors showcasing local culture and products.
Chief Secretary Atul Dullo shared insights on the event's significance and its potential long-term impact.
In a media interaction, Dullo emphasized that this is the first time the marathon is being organized by the tourism department, marking a key milestone in the region's efforts to promote tourism.
"This is the first edition, and we aim to make it an annual event. Registered runners are collecting their kits, and we have also organized an exhibition showcasing our niche handlooms, handicrafts, and agricultural products," Dullo said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Highlighting the marathon's potential to boost the region’s economy, Dullo explained, "We want to promote the party culture, local agriculture, and handcrafts through this event. The marathon industry is a huge opportunity, and it can significantly contribute to Kashmir’s economy by promoting adventure tourism."
With over 2,000 participants, including international runners from 12-13 countries, the event has received an overwhelming response. "The marathon is designed to be sustainable, with minimal environmental footprint, reflecting our commitment to eco-tourism," Dullo added.. (KNS)
