Agency successfully disrupted terror modules, secured high-profile convictions, and strengthened national security measures.
New Delhi, Dec 31(KNS): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) recorded significant achievements in 2025, including high-profile terror and organised crime cases, maintaining a conviction rate of over 92 percent, the agency disclosed on Wednesday.
The year saw the successful extradition of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack plotter Tahawwur Rana from the United States in April, marking a major breakthrough in the NIA’s long-standing investigation into the 2008 attacks. The agency also secured the deportation of gangster Anmol Bishnoi, a key aide of Lawrence Bishnoi, to face trial in India.
The NIA made major progress in terror cases in Pahalgam and Delhi. In the Pahalgam attack, seven accused, including Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and The Resistance Front (TRF) members, were chargesheeted. In the Delhi Red Fort blast, nine accused were arrested within two months.
Action against Left Wing Extremism (LWE) continued, with nine investigations and 34 chargesheeted cadres. The agency also tackled insurgency in the North East, pro-Khalistani networks, human trafficking syndicates, and cyber slavery cases.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
In total, the NIA registered 55 cases, arrested 276 accused, and secured 66 convictions during the year. The agency attached 12 properties and conducted nationwide searches leading to 200 arrests. Cases related to ISIS, Al-Qaeda, HuT, and other terror modules were intensively investigated, alongside pro-Khalistani and organised crime networks.
Major breakthroughs were also achieved in cases involving targeted killings, FICN networks, and the 2019 Visakhapatnam Navy espionage case.
Operational and technical upgrades included the development of a Government Weapons Database and an Organised Crime Network Database, as well as workshops on cryptocurrency-related crime investigations.
Officials said these measures strengthened the NIA’s capacity to respond to evolving terror and crime threats, ensuring national security and reinforcing coordination with state and central agencies.(KNS).
