Baramulla, August 24 (KNS):Government Degree College Baramulla commemorated National Space Day 2024 with a significant event marking the first anniversary of ISRO's Chandrayaan-3 mission, which successfully landed the Vikram Lander on the moon's south pole. The program, held in the college auditorium, was attended by over 100 students and faculty members from various disciplines.
The event featured a special keynote address by Prof. Tariq Ahmad Chalkoo, Dean of Skill Development and Head of the Department of Physics. Prof. Chalkoo discussed the importance of the Chandrayaan-3 mission and its impact on India's space exploration efforts. He highlighted that National Space Day serves as a platform to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and explorers to pursue careers in space science and technology. Prof. Chalkoo also emphasized the role of space exploration in increasing awareness about its impact on daily life and the benefits of space technology in areas such as communication, weather forecasting, navigation, and disaster management.
Prof. Muhammad Shafi Lone, Principal of the College, presided over the event and spoke about the broader significance of National Space Day. He commended ISRO’s remarkable achievements and the dedication of its scientists and engineers, which have positioned India as a leading player in global space research. Prof. Lone stressed that the day celebrates scientific milestones and serves to foster scientific curiosity and technological innovation among students.

Dr. Mutahar noted that National Space Day highlights the essential role of space exploration and acknowledges the hard work of those behind India's space missions. He thanked Prof. Chalkoo for his insightful talk and expressed appreciation for the active participation of the college community.
The celebration was attended by notable guests, including Fayaz Ahmed and Dr. Umar, Joint Directors of NIELIT; Prof. Zahid Ahmad Najar, Head of the Department of Botany, Dr. Nisar Iqbal Wani, Head of the Computer Science Department; Dr. Nisar Kangoo, Assistant Professor of Computer Sciences; Dr. Sameer Farooq, Assistant Professor of Environmental Science; Dr. Kaiser Ahmad Dar, Head of the Department of Psychology; Dr. Aalya Akhtar and Dr. Abdul Majeed Bhat, Assistant Professors of the Psychology Department;; and Dr. Mohammad Amin Lone and Prof. Zahid Ahmad Wani, Assistant Professors of the Department of Zoology.
The event also coincided with a 5-day drone technology program, demonstrating the college’s commitment to advancing education in emerging technologies. This program, which offered hands-on training in drone operations, further enriched the academic experience for students from various disciplines.
